How do you describe the connections ? Perhaps you should start with Guttenberg, who made type movable and connected the world with printed word. Bell took spoken words and sent them over a copper wire. Marconi took words and sounds and moved them through the air and into space. Noyce took silicon sand and made it conductive, moving -- and modifying -- words and sounds across pathways measured in millionths of an inch. Yet it seems ironic that a Cold War, which kept the world apart, is the impetus for the Internet, bringing about the Space Age, the Information Age, and ultimately the end of 30 years of mainframe computing. And so the paradigm of connecting people shifts yet again. If you're passionate -- like we are -- about what is taking place through trillions of ones and zeroes traveling across the world at light speed every second, then you might believe that we've come full circle, or perhaps an upward spiral, to the new Renaissance of the Digital Age.
